The History of Biltong
Over 400 years ago… Dutch Settlers and African Tribesmen sun dried strips of beef & game during their trek across the African Subcontinent as a means of preserving their food. It allowed them to carry ready-to-eat food with them, resulting in one of the earliest “convenience” foods on record.
1800Biltong products are produced to the highest standards from the best cuts of grass fed choice beef, here in the USA. Our unique blend of seasonings and spices give our meat a unique and distinctive flavor. Go ahead and enjoy a “Little Taste of Africa” today!
The importance of protein
Not only is Biltong a tasty and healthy snack but it's also a great natural source of protein. Protein is one of the three building blocks of our foods along with carbohydrates and fats, and plays one of the most vital roles in our body.
When Should You Eat Biltong?
There is no right or wrong time to eat biltong and you should use it to fit in with your goals and lifestyle.
If you are going to the gym on a regular basis it's an ideal post-workout food to aid recovery and muscle growth. A bag of biltong fits easily into your training bag and doesn't require any mixing or preparation, just crack open the bag and dive in. With 50g of Biltong delivering just over 28g of protein, it’s ideal as a post workout food.
Biltong is also an ideal snack during the day between meals. It’s great for satisfying those hunger pangs, is low fat and low carb and just a small amount will keep you going until your next meal. For most people a 50g bag of Biltong will last for two portions during the day serving as both a morning and afternoon snack.
